Panama Canal: Gatun Locks
An aerial view of Gatun Locks, at the north end of the Canal, clearly shows its two lanes and three chambers. Southbound vessels are approaching from the Atlantic to be raised 26 meters in three steps to the level of the artificial Gatun Lake. This photo shows two Panamax vessels, loaded with containers, exiting Gatun Locks.
